The March 2022 Obstruction Report details how the City continues to battle PG&E’s obstruction of public power, including details about how PG&E has nearly doubled the rate the City pays for transmission and distribution of the City’s own Hetch Hetchy Public Power. Additionally, the report provides updates on the January 31, 2022 hearing at the Land Use & Transportation Committee, the City’s petition to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), requesting a formal determination of the value of PG&E’s electric assets in San Francisco, and additional updates on PG&E’s obstruction and delays. Since October 2018, the City has reported on 116 projects that have experienced obstruction by PG&E. The total cost impact (additional project costs and loss of revenue to the City) of PG&E’s obstructions since October 2018 has been over $20M.

April 2021 Obstruction report to the board of supervisors

In the April 2021 Obstruction Report, the SFPUC has identified 72 projects that have experienced interconnection delays, requests for additional and/or unnecessary information, or increased project costs. Since the last report, five projects have been added and 10 projects have been energized. To avoid further delays to important City services, three additional projects were forced to apply for PG&E’s retail service instead of taking Hetchy service, bringing the total to 22 projects that have had to pay higher electric rates to PG&E.
